With the new stimulus legislation, homeowners are now eligible for a tax credit of up to $1,500 for energy efficient improvements.  Upgrades such as solar Solar Skylight Tubes now allow homeowners to reduce their income tax liability by up to 30% of the purchase price of qualifying improvements in 2009 and 2010.

Qualifying skylights and lighting upgrades should include the required accompanying manufacturer’s letter that certifies compliance with the tax credit requirements including NFRC-certified U-Factor and Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) ratings that do not exceed 0.30.  These U-Factor and SHGC ratings can be found on the included NFRC label.

In addition to these ratings, the qualifying upgrades must have been installed in 2009 or 2010.  The tax rebate is available for up to 30% of the purchase price, not exceeding $1,500.  The IRS form for requesting the home improvements tax credit is IRS Form 5695 (2009 version).
